Work experience

Camp Counselor
Camp Green Acres
Markham, Ontario, Canada
June 2017 - August 2017

My first job experience where I learned much about being a team player, problem solving and adapting to the needs of diverse individuals. My primary roles were to tend to each camper’s individual needs, following safety procedures and completing administrative tasks with a calm and collected demeanor.

My responsibilities included:

Supervise campers at all times with continuous head counts throughout the day

Communicate and follow up on camper issues and behaviors with Head Staff in a professional manner

Clean up after your cabin – rec hall, change room, pool area, specialties

Send home craft projects – ensure they don’t get broken or wet in knapsack

Keep track of campers’ belongings – reduce lost/misplaced items

Monitor camper lunches. Check daily that camper lunches are peanut and nut free.

Listen attentively to the interactions between the campers for inappropriate, mean or bullying behavior.

Assist in the planning and arrangement of extended nights, unit programs and other camp programs

Keep track of assigned buses and designated campers to look after each morning

Be warm, patient and caring to each of the campers, regardless of the age.

Fill out attendance form every day and be up to date on new weekly schedules and activities

Greet parents on Parent Night, providing comments on campers’ progress and experiences at camp

Be available to do any other duties that may be called upon for the benefit of the camp.
